The Bishop who leads the Anglican Communion’s Consultative Council (ACC) – the church’s major forum, says churchgoers worldwide do not want to hear Bishops talking about division and schism.

The Archbishop of Canterbury  has written to Anglican Communion Primates and members of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC)  with a summary of their individual responses to the outcome of September House of Bishops meeting of the Episcopal Church (USA).   He made it clear that he was not at this stage advancing his own  interpretation of these responses. 

The Joint Standing Committee of the Anglican Consultative Council and the Primates of the Anglican Communion have now submitted their Report on The Episcopal Church House of Bishops of Meeting in New Orleans.  The Archbishop of Canterbury has sent the Report to all the Primates and to all members of the Anglican Consultative Council and asked them to consult in their Provinces on the Report, and respond to him by the end of October.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd Rowan Williams spoke today the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) meeting of his hopes for the forthcoming conference. He said that he was concerned that the gathering will help bishops be "better equipped for mission" and to focus on "training and devleopment" for the participants. Archbishop Williams also said he would like to see the bishops and the bishops' spouses meet together and that the regional meetings should "identify actuals areas of need".

Let me begin by giving you a summary of the sermon that I'm not going to preach. It's very tempting when we hear the New Testament lesson today to use it as a way of thinking about the Church including strangers. The Church moves from one ethnic group to another and proves that it is adaptable for new people.

The discussion of the Anglican Peace and Justice Network (APJN) was thorough and an additional session was allocated to facilitate maximum participation from the floor of the ACC. Note was duly made of the representations made to Lambeth, ACC and others concerning the Palestine/Israeli conflict.
