The Standing Committee is a 14-member group (15, if the Archbishop of Canterbury is present, as he is an ex officio member, as well as being its President). Seven of its members are elected by the members of the ACC, and five are members of the Primates' Standing Committee. The other two members are the Chair and Vice-Chair of the ACC, elected by the members in plenary session. Their function is together to assist the Churches of the Anglican Communion in advancing the work of their mission worldwide.
The final day of the Standing Committee began with a presentation on the Anglican Alliance – Development, Relief and Advocacy’s new status as a charitable company. The committee was told that primate of the Church of the Province of Central Africa Archbishop Albert Chama is to be the Chair of Trustees of the company
The day began with a presentation on the work of the Communications Department. Director for Communications Jan Butter said the biggest challenges for the Communion included communicating all the good ministry and mission work of churches above the noise of controversial issues, plus enabling Communion members to connect and talk with one another.
Day 1 of the 2013 Standing Committee meeting
On the penultimate day of the Anglican Consultative Meeting in Auckland, New Zealand the members of the Council elected six members to serve on the Standing Committee. It is expected that the standing committee will hold its first meeting in April or May of 2013.
