The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) Jan. 26 is honoring Nobel Peace Prize laureate and activist Desmond Tutu, archbishop emeritus of Cape Town, South Africa, for his efforts in the battle against hunger and his advocacy on behalf of the world’s most vulnerable people.


Twenty women from countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Uganda and India are visiting the Anglican United Nations Office (AUNO) next month to engage with the UN’s 56th Commission on the Status of Women, which this year has ‘empowerment of rural women’ as its priority theme.

The commitment by Primates at the January meeting in Dublin to work to eliminate violence against women and girls has been warmly welcomed by the Communion’s International Anglican Women’s Network (IAWN).

Anglicans from across the world have contributed to a report to the United Nations about church-supported projects that are working to meet the Millennium Development Goals.


The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has today issued a video message to mark the opening of the United Nations Summit on the Millennium Development Goals in New York.


Some 35 members of the Anglican Peace and Justice Network (APJN) will meet in Geneva, Switzerland, from 13 - 20 March, 2010. Representing over 20 countries and all the world’s continents, participants will learn more about making their voices heard within the UN system in Geneva. In parallel, they will be introduced to UN policies and programmes to inform their own work on peace and justice worldwide.


Thousands of women from around the world, including more than 90 representing the Anglican Communion, will gather in New York March 1-12 for the 54th session of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women to undertake a 15-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

This year’s 53rd Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was focused on the priority theme of the equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including caregiving in the context of HIV/AIDS. Fifty Anglican delegates from 27 of our 38 provinces came with country status reports out of which they identified advocacy points for speaking to the official Draft Agreed Conclusions.
